Wish I was still there! by A Traveler from IL
Sailing date: Jan 2009

Pros:
Beautiful & clean balcony room, excellent dinner staff, fabulous Mexican Riveria Stops

Cons:
The bathrooms (room and otherwise) seem to have a constant slight smell unlike my trip on the Carnival Pride. Hopefully just a temporary problem.

I cruised on Jan. 7th, 2009 from San Diego on the Mexican Rivera itinerary and had a great time. I am still sea-homesick! The ports are a lot of fun. Acapulco- you will find the best jewelry and the cliff divers are not to be missed. It's easy to bargain as there are so many people trying to sell to you! Ixtapa/Z.- This is a great time to hang out at a resort... it's beautiful and a bit more peaceful there, but not a lot of shopping deals in my experience. Manzanillo (pardon the misspell)- less shopping chances available, but some of the best prices. That's where I got Mexican Hammock Chairs for 25 bucks apiece (I had a loved one ask specifically for me to bring one back..and they were asking 40 bucks for a lesser quality version of it in Ixtapa). The flea market I scored the chairs on was a stop on the City & Shopping Tour (booked through Carnival)...

Ship Quality
This ship was really nice and I have nothing but positive thoughts about it. The lack of the 6th smile mark is just because of the weird odor problem.

Dining/Food
I enjoyed all the food. In the Empire room, my favorite dishes were anything shrimp or lobster, the appetizer that was beef with peanut sauce (YUM!), creme brulee and baked alaska. Everyone raves about the Chocolate Melting Cake but really its just an underbaked cake in a cup. Ick. On Lido, I mostly enjoyed the Asian seafood and the Deli. Oh, the chocolate chip cookies are fab too!

Ship Staff Quality
I thought the staff was top notch... my only issue was with the breakfast staff in the Empire restaurant. For some reason the blonde woman working at the hostess station would never give us a window table despite there being one of an appropriate size available each day and me specifically asking. She was actually pretty rude about it when it came to the 3rd time I asked, but I won't let one bad apple ruin the rest! I LOVED Junior (JR) and Eko- our Empire Dinner staff.

Entertainment & Activities
There were a few hours in the day during the fun days at sea where there wasn't really anything to do, so that's why I don't give it perfect marks. However, if you have a room with a balcony, that is the perfect time to go hang out and read a book on it!

Pros:
The cruise director Shawn

Cons:
Rude fellow passengers

This was my fourth cruise on the Carnival Spirit. It is a beautiful and clean ship. The food was very good and the waitstaff in the Empire Dining Room was excellent.

Dining/Food
I enjoyed the meals in the Empire Dining Room; however, the beef was not of good quality. The seafood was better.

I loved the cruise director Shawn. She was very personable and approachable. The captain walked the ship often and made his presence known; he had a good personality.

Entertainment & Activities
I did not enjoy the entertainment. Dancers and singers were very weak. I enjoyed the "meet and ask questions of the crew" activity.
