Terrible Cruise by
A Traveler from Lantana, FL
Sailing date: Nov 2008 Pros:
Food
Cons:
Cabin
We were assigned a cabin that had such violent shaking and vibration, that sleeping was impossible. Destiny is an old ship that should probably be retired. This will be my last Carnival cruise. They just don't care about their guests!!
Ship Quality
Dining/Food
Stateroom Quality As I previously mentioned, our cabin was a disaster.

Great Islands, Disappointed in Ship by
Stacy K. from Edison, NJ
Sailing date: Aug 2007 Pros:
Itinerary
Cons:
Ship services
When we arrived at the ship, there was no introduction, pamphlet or info. about the ship. We had to search for everything, and didn't even realize half the stuff was there until a few days into the cruise. A map or sheet of info. would have been nice.
We were on the Destiny in late August, from a Sunday to Sunday. The main attraction is a big waterslide. Unfortunately, the waterslide was closed until Thursday, and then only open for 1 1/2 days! There were 3 small pools - one for adults only, and another was closed nearly every day. So dozens of kids and parents were smushed into one pool and jacuzzi. At one point, all three pools were closed!
Kids clubs were okay, but there wasn't much variety in activities. Kids Club staff was very good, though.
Food was excellent, and waiter service was also. Rooms were clean, and towel animals were cute.

St. John's, Antigua Great beaches
Bridgetown, Barbados Don't Miss: Snorkeling and Jeep tour was great
Castries, St. Lucia Skip the excursions - take a cab. For a little over $100, our family of five spent nearly 5 hours touring this island - stopped at the waterfall, volcano, and saw all the sites.
Don't Miss: Volcano
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Don't Miss: Magen's Bay, of course!

Expected more by
A Traveler from Puerto Rico
Sailing date: Sep 2007 Pros:
The staff was excellant
Cons:
Stateroom had broken furniture and damaged walls
I was very disappointed with the quality of my room, vanity drawers were broken as well as bathroom mirrors and walls. However my room was always kept clean, and the staff was excellent, I always had plenty of fresh towels and clean linen. I found the pools to be very overcrowded and very small. But the real attraction was the huge waterslide that all my family enjoyed. If you have children this is a terrific cruise, plenty of activities for them and Camp Carnival is wonderful when parents need a break. Overall it is a good deal for the money, if you are traveling with children.
Ship Quality Remember this is a older ship, so alot of things might be worn down. The ship was very clean and staff was always helpfull.
Dining/Food No complaints about the food, there was plenty of variety, and the New York Deli was our favorite.
Stateroom Quality My room was small and disappointing , but my parents room was spacious and they had no complaints. It is better to spend the little extra money and get the larger room.
Ship Staff Quality Our waiters treated us like royality. On the last night, my entire family cried when they hugged us good bye.
Entertainment & Activities The broadway style shows were excellant, the late night comedy show had alot of profanity, so beware if you offend easily.
Children's Programs My 8 year old son could not wait for dinner to be over so he could race back to Camp Carnival each evening.

Sailing date: Aug 2007 Pros:
kids club for the kids
Cons:

The islands and the tours were great but I did not use carniva'sl tour system, they were very expensive. there is no organization for the buffet lines. My bed was done about twice a day, however the covers were not change. Same cover on the bed for about 3 days.

Carnival Destiny - Excellent Value!!! by
Laurie O from Ontario, CANADA
Sailing date: Apr 2006 Pros:
Layout of the ship and its cleanliness
Cons:
I have nothing to complain about
As we had cruised on a year old ship last year (Glory), I had mentally prepared myself to accept that this ship would not be as nice or luxurious as it was 10 years old and wouldn't compare to the Glory. Not so!!! I was extremely impressed at what good shape the Destiny is in as well as its cleanliness. It is similar in size and boasts much the same entertainment areas.
The food was good (not sumputuous) and there was plenty of it. It's amazing at how many people are fed and yet they never run out of anything.....
The ports of call were wonderful - Dominica is a fairly improverished island and it was at this port of call that we witnessed any sort of negativity from the people. At the sulphur springs there was a guy set up selling handmade windpipes. He felt that it should cost people to take his picture or that of a flower.......Like I said, the island has much poverty. We went on an excursion - jeeps in the rainforest. We had a very friendly, well spoken guide. He made up for what the other guy didn't have.
All in all - we were impressed with the Destiny. The itinery is magnificant -great islands to visit. We would definitely do this again!!!!!
Ship Quality Very clean and well maintained!
Dining/Food The food was very good. It wasn't out of this world, but good and plenty of it.
Stateroom Quality We had a balcony suite. The decor was modern and the cabin, roomy. The bed was excellent - very comfortable with great linens. The duvet was exactly what was needed after a day in the sun!!! I think I slept better on the ship then I do when we stay in hotels!!
Ship Staff Quality For the most part the staff was friendly and willing to help. We had 2 cabin stewards - 1 that was very friendly and efficient and the other was more on the scale of average.
The bar and casino staff were all friendly and more than willing to help.
Entertainment & Activities A good variety of activities thoughout the day/night. I would have like to have seen more interactive activities during the day on the Lido deck but it was nice just to sit and relax also. The casino was a nice size with a variety of games. There are many bars, including a disco. If you were in the mood for lively, then the disco would be a good choice. If you were in the mood for just sitting having a quiet drink, there was always a place you could do this. The internet was typically priced (we did pay as you go) and the availability good.
Collapse List of Ports
Oranjestad, Aruba This was a lovely port - unfortunately the beach excursion was full (book early). The activities staff did tell us though not to despair as you can take a cab/bus to the beach and pay a fee to use the Holiday Inn amenities. This is pretty much what the excursion is. Only difference is - you are arranging it yourself. The shopping in Aruba is also good (jewellry shopping better in St. Thomas). There was quite a variety of shops and the people were friendly. This was a good port to walk along the pier, have some island food, shop, go to the casino, hit the beaches, etc. There is something here for everyone.
Bridgetown, Barbados Beautiful island!!! The beaches were gorgeous and the shoreline accommodations appeared very up to date. We took the Jolly Roger pirate cruise. If you like rum punch - this is the excursion for you. We had a good party crowd on our excursion - this made for excellent entertainment.
Don't Miss: Any excursion that puts you on the water - this gives you a good view of the coast line and what types of accommodations are available should you wish to revisit the island for a vacation.
Dominica This port had some nice scenery in the rainforest. We did the jeep safari and it was enjoyable. If we were to take this identical cruise again, we would stay on the ship at this port.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas This is THE shopping port. Ladies, if you are looking for any jewellry, this is the place to get it. Do not wait until Aruba - the prices there are much higher and the shop staff not near as friendly or approachable.
Remember - in this port NEVER pay what the sticker price is on the jewellry. It's not really what the price is - it is the price that someone will pay though if you don't haggle.
We did no excursions on this island - those that did that we talked to were happy with their time ashore.
Don't Miss: SHOPPING
